Superficial 肤浅

24th March 2007 5.16 am

Today someone said to me "Long time no see" and "How are you?". A thought suddenly struck me. This society has conditioned us to be such superficial and hypocritical people. Usually "Long time no see" means either both parties or 1 party cannot be bothered to meet up. In this current world, communications is so convenient there is simply no excuse not to meet up with someone you wish to unless that person is overseas. Therefore "Long time no see" simply means yes we recognise each other but until such day we need each other for some reason, we're never going to be actual friends.

Nest "How are you?" or "How have you been?". Usually you reply "Fine thank you' or "Fine what about you?" Even if you had a real shitty day. We're taught from young to avoid telling the truth as often as possible. Woe betide the person who dares to actually answer the truth and starts pouring his heart out. I would say if you tell the truth "Yes, recently has been terrible." most of the time the person asking the question will look awkward and shocked followed by "What happened?" then pretends to look interested. In the meantime praying for some intervention to leave the conversation. Once his/her phone rings or something the person will attempt to make a quick exit by saying they've got something on, take care, talk to you another day, keep in touch, don't think too much, blah blah blah blah blah...... Most probably you'll never hear from the person again!

What i've mentioned happens most of the time but it doesn't mean all the time. On the rare occasion that someone actually helps you or keeps in touch with you, that's a real friend you can keep.
